ALL THE KING'S MEN I hit the Jayhawk Conference Media Day on Friday at the Wichita Boathouse (first time for the event at the new location) and came away feeling absolutely certain about one thing … anybody who says they know who the favorite is to win this league is lying. And that Butler is going to have a pretty good quarterback. So I guess that’s two things.
KJCCC commissioner Bryce Roderick opened things up by announcing the league’s new partnership with Verizon and congratulated Fort Scott on finishing as the national runner-up last season. Hutch SID Steve Carpenter made my day by announcing that the cluster formerly known as the Jayhawk player of the week awards was now going to be streamlined so that there’s ONE offensive player of the week ONE defensive player of the week and ONE special teams player of the week as nominated and voted on by the league’s SIDs. The teams went in order of picked finish, from eighth to first. Oh, and the Jayhawk is hosting two bowl games again this year — the Citizens Bank Bowl in Pittsburg and the Salt City Bowl in Hutchinson. I covered both last year and had a blast.
