Hot and muggy, with a slight chance of showers today for Wichita area

There’s a slight chance of showers in southern and southeast Kansas later today, forecasters say, and some of those isolated storms could be strong.

For the most part, however, it will simply be a hot, muggy summer day, with temperatures topping out in the mid-90s and heat index readings approaching 105 in much of the area. Light southeasterly winds will stay in the single digits.

The weekend will be hot and humid, with lows in the mid-70s, highs in the mid-90s, light winds and heat index readings soaring above the century mark, forecasters say.
