Lottery will push back casino deadline if no one applies by July 22

The Kansas Lottery Commission has established a new deadline for Sumner County casino proposals if no applications are received by the original July 22 deadline.

The lottery doesn't expect that to happen.

"I'll tell you very clearly, we do expect applications, more than one in that zone," Keith Kocher, the lottery's gaming facilities director, told commissioners at their regular monthly meeting this morning.

The new deadline would be Oct. 28. It would kick in automatically if the lottery doesn't receive at least one valid application by July 22.

The commission also set new deadlines in the southeast zone. The deadline for applications in that zone is tomorrow, and no applications are expected.

The new deadline is Oct. 21. If no applications are received by then, the next deadline would be Jan. 20, 2011.
