Sedgwick County will budget for a 4 percent raise pool for employees, but manager Wiliam Buchanan has recommended that commissioners not decide until fall if, when and how much employees would receive.
Buchanan said that will give the county flexibility to respond to the economy.
Commissioners don’t seem likely to approve a 4 percent pool. For this year, employees who make more than $75,000 received no raise, and staff who make less than $75,000 received 2 percent across-the-board raises.
Commissioner Karl Peterjohn said no public official, at any level of government, should accept a pay raise in today’s economy.
