The first chase day of Vortex2’s second spring of field research is likely to be Thursday – somewhere in Kansas.
The armada is traveling to central Kansas today, with an eye toward tracking storms that are expected to develop on Thursday.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Kansas – including the Wichita area – under a slight risk for severe weather on Thursday, with isolated tornadoes and large hail among the possibilities.
Forecast models suggest the greatest tornado threat may take shape along an I-70 corridor from Hays through Salina to Manhattan and Topeka.
