Mayor Brewer announces water utility advisory committee

WICHITA — Mayor Carl Brewer this morning announced an 18 member panel of public finance and utility experts to conduct a comprehensive review of the city’s financially-strapped water utility department and its massive aquifer recharge project.

"The whole purpose of this committee is to make sure that we have water for the next 50 years and beyond,” Brewer said.

The group will meet for the first time at 1 p.m. today in an open meeting at the Wichita Independent Business Association. It will meet once a month and provide a wide-range of recommendations on water rates, the Equus Beds Aquifer Storage and Recovery project and the financial problems facing the utility.
