Scattered thunderstorms are expected in central and southern Kansas today and Friday, forecasters say.
“It doesn’t look like Wichita will see any thunderstorms until 2 or 3 a.m.” on Friday, National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Schminke said.
The strongest storms should produce heavy rain, gusty winds and small hail. Tornadoes will not be a threat with these storms, weather officials say.
Highs in Wichita should reach the upper 70s under cloudy skies. Southerly winds will increase from the low teens into the low 20s, with gusts to nearly 30 miles an hour.
Overnight lows will dip into the mid-50s, then Friday should only reach the low 60s as the rain persists. This weekend should be pleasant, however, with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s.
