Wichita State certainly missed starting pitcher Charlie Lowell on Sunday during a 9-5 loss to Southern Illinois. It doesn’t sound as if Lowell’s recovery from a strained forearm is going to go quickly. He tried soft tosses of about 30 feet on Sunday and Monday. Both days, he quit after five or six.“It didn’t feel right,” he said. “I’m not trying to rush back into anything.”Coach Gene Stephenson said Lowell will undergo an MRI as soon as possible. Lowell, a sophomore lefty, came out of an April 4 game at Evansville complaining of forearm and elbow tightness. He has not pitched since. Lowell said he will try again Tuesday.
