Randy Groom, founder of consulting firm Groom Aviation, is heading for Vero Beach, Fla., where he will be executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer support for Piper Aircraft.
Groom, 56, will report to Piper president and CEO Kevin Gould. He begins the position May 1.
Groom held senior executive positions at Hawker Beechcraft, most recently as president of global customer service and support and president of Beechcraft.
Piper was acquired by Imprimis, a corporate finance and investment management firm with offices in Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, last year. Piper’s lineup of aircraft ranges from the PiperSport, a light sport aircraft, to the Meridian turboprop. It also is developing the PiperJet, a very light jet. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2013.
Groom is an instrument-rated commercial pilot with more than 10,000 flying hours. At age 19, he was the U.S. Air Force’s youngest flight instructor.
