State Rep. Steve Huebert, R-Valley Center, told Wichita schools superintendent John Allison that there is a "common goal" to restore school funding when the economy improves. But it's understandable why school officials across the state doubt that and, as a result, opted to reopen their funding lawsuit. After all, Huebert and most GOP lawmakers adamantly opposed the school-funding settlement in 2005 when economic times were much better. And since then they've supported cutting taxes on wealthy estates and other tax exemptions, rather than making sure the state had money to honor its school-funding commitment.
