Frigid Friday for Wichita

Temperatures dropped nearly to zero overnight in Wichita, and forecasters say they won’t climb very far today in the metropolitan area.

The overnight low was 1, and forecasters say the mercury will nudge its nose into double digits today under sunny skies. But northwest winds in the teens will push the wind chills well below zero most of the day, and the National Weather Service has extended the wind chill advisory until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Wind chills were at -17 shortly before 7 a.m. today in Wichita.

Overnight lows tonight are expected to fall below zero in Wichita, and Saturday will remain harshly cold. Highs should climb into the mid-teens, with wind chills of -15 or more.

Forecasters say Sunday should see the start of a warming trend, however, with southerly winds helping push temperatures into the low 30s.
