The last three years were the wettest in Wichita history, the National Weather Service reports.
A total of 129.32 inches of precipitation fell between 2007 and 2009, topping the previous record of 119.52 inches that fell between 1949 and 1951.
Interestingly, the third-highest total came just a decade ago: 117.15 inches between 1997 and 1999.
Chance Hayes, warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service, cautioned against reading too much into the record, calling it “an anomaly of statistics.”
