Military jets escorted a small Cessna aircraft to the airport after the French pilot was told not to fly the plane because he could not speak in English with officials, according to the Associated Press.
Two fighter jets were sent to turn around the pilot, who landed at a South Florida airfield. The UPI reports that the pilot did not respond to air traffic controllers while taking a Cessna 425 for a test flight.
The French pilot isn’t facing criminal charges, the AP said.
English is the standard language of pilots, who must be able to communicate with air traffic control and other pilots.
