Is it too much to ask that lawmakers not use the attempted bombing of the Northwest Airlines flight to score cheap political points? GOP lawmakers are trying to blame President Obama for the attack, and have faulted him for waiting several days to publicly discuss the bombing (even though former President Bush waited more than a week to talk about the shoe-bomber case in 2001). Democrats have responded by blasting Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., for blocking Obama's nominee to direct the Transportation Security Administration. Lawmakers need to examine what went wrong and hold people accountable. But this should be one area in which lawmakers set aside partisanship.
