Cut ties with Heritage group

When the Sedgwick County Commission gave Heritage Development Group the authority to market the Kansas Coliseum complex as a site for rodeos and horse shows, it did so in an off-agenda action — and a hurry. Now Heritage reportedly may be making promises about the Coliseum that Sedgwick County can't keep, which makes Commission Chairman Kelly Parks right to want to sever ties with the group. It will be unfortunate if the county loses the chance to host the National High School Rodeo Association's 2012 and 2013 Wrangler Junior High Rodeo Finals, but the county invited trouble in approving an agreement with Heritage without fully vetting the group and without having a plan for the Coliseum's future.
