The Kansas State High School Activities Association assigned Wichita Collegiate to the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League for the 2010-11 school year.
Collegiate was left without a league when multiple schools in the MCAA decided to leave the league and form a new one. Facing the struggles of trying to fill sports schedules as an independent, Collegiate petitioned the KSHSAA to assign the school into a league.
Wednesday three leagues presented their cases to the KSHSAA — the Central Kansas League (the possible name for the new league with multiple MCAA teams in it), the Central Plains League and the AV-CTL.
And the KSHSAA executive board decided to place Collegiate in the AV-CTL.
Collegiate athletic director and boys basketball coach Mitch Fiegel was thrilled when reached today.
“I will tell you this, we are ecstatic,” he said. “It’s going to be a great home for us and we will do everything in our power to be an exemplary member of that league.”
The AV-CTL will add Maize South to its league schedule in 2010, as well, while Goddard’s new school opens in 2011.
