No. 23 in the ICT

Michael Jordan is on his way into the Basketball Hall of Fame. One step along that path came at Levitt Arena in the 1981 McDonald’s All-American game. Jordan, in a hint of things to come, made the winning free throws with 11 seconds to play to give the East a 96-95 win over the West.

As far as I know, it was Jordan’s only appearance in Wichita, maybe in Kansas.

Jordan made 13 of 19 shots and managed to avoid MVP honors. Adrian Branch of the East (24 points) and future Shocker Aubrey Sherrod (19 points) of the West shared that award. Greg Dreiling scored seven points. Patrick Ewing was on the roster and in the arena, but did not play due to injury. Chris Mullin, the biggest name after Jordan, scored two points.

Sam Vincent, Bobby Lee Hurt, Stuart Gray, Bill Wennington and Milt Wagner also played.
