WICHITA - Scattered strong thunderstorms are possible in the Wichita metropolitan area today as the school year begins.
In fact, National Weather Service meteorologists are tracking strong outflow winds from a line of thunderstorms stretching from 7 miles northwest of Halstead to 9 miles south of Haven to 6 miles south of Kingman.
The line was moving southeast at 40 miles an hour. Wind gusts of around 50 mph are expected ahead of these storms, along with locally heavy rains.
More thunderstorms are expected later today. Highs may touch 90, forecasters say, with light southeast winds lingering in the single digits.
Chances for rain continue through Tuesday and much of the work week.
