WICHITA - Forecasters are calling for another sizzler of a day for the Wichita area today.
In fact, it could be the hottest day of the year so far for Wichita, topping the 103 set on Sunday. Clear skies and south winds gusting to nearly 30 miles an hour are expected as well.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning until 9 p.m. today for 17 counties in central and southern Kansas, including Sedgwick, Reno, Harvey, Butler, Sumner and Cowley counties in the Wichita area.
A break in the heat is coming, however: a frontal boundary passing through the region later tonight should bring much cooler temperatures to Wichita. Forecasters say highs will only be in the upper 80s and low 90s from Wednesday through early next week, with chances for showers and thunderstorms interspersed through the period.
