WICHITA - Fresh off its hottest day of the year, Wichita will get a bit of a break on temperatures today - but the heat index will remain high.
Forecasters say the heat index figures to top 105 today, even though temperatures aren’t expected to threaten 100 today. That’s because it will be humid, with a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms lingering most of the day. Winds will be out of the east at about 10 miles an hour.
An excessive heat warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, which means the heat index could climb to between 105 and 110 degrees. Tuesday’s temperatures could top Sunday’s high, which was 103.
Sunday was the second day of the year Wichita reached the century mark.
