Morning storms possible again in Wichita area

WICHITA - Another round of early morning storms is possible in the Wichita area, forecasters warn - and then searing summer heat is expected to set in.

The storms could be spotty, mirroring the scattered showers that doused some parts of the metropolitan area and left others untouched Wednesday morning. But additional rain could aggravate the flooding threat in eastern Sedgwick County, where a flood warning was posted by the National Weather Service until after 2 a.m. today.

Heavy rain from Wednesday night’s line of strong thunderstorms dropped more than an inch of rain in some portions of Sedgwick County, prompting the flood warning.

Highs of about 100 are possible in Wichita today as skies clear in the afternoon. Triple-digit heat is anticipated again Friday, forecasters say. Lows will slip only into the upper 70s tonight and Friday night.

Saturday should be cooler, but not by much. Temperatures will climb to the upper 90s, forecasters say, and may touch 100 again.
