American International Group has selected a group including Onex Corp. and Greenbriar Equity Group as the preferred bidder for its aircraft leasing unit, Bloomberg reports.
International Lease Finance Corp. is the largest customer of Boeing and Airbus.
Onex bought Boeing’s commercial aircraft division in Wichita in 2005, which became Spirit AeroSystems. It also partnered with GS Capital Partners to buy Raytheon Co.’s Wichita aircraft division in 2007, now Hawker Beechcraft.
Onex and Greenbrier plan to keep ILFC founder and CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy to run the firm, Bloomberg said. The report cites sources familar with the situation.
In addition to the Onex proposal, AIG has received offers from two other bidders, Washington-based Carlyle Group and London-based Terra Firma Capital Partners, the report said.
