Do starter's pistols send the wrong message?

by joanna

According to a blurb we have on page 2 of the sports section and from the Toronto Star, there is a “growing clamor” in Canada that says starter’s pistols in track send the wrong message. Essentially saying there shouldn’t be guns around kids, whether they shoot blanks or not.

I laughed when I saw this. And it reminded me of the person who complained one year — we had shot the All-City volleyball photo on the train tracks right outside The Eagle (it’s where the huge rolls of paper are brought by train). This person said it’s a horrible message to send to kids that it’s OK to be on train tracks. I laughed to myself then, too.

But at the same time, I can’t help but think if there’s a good point here. You?
