Oral Roberts at Wichita State

ORU 7, WSU 6, bottom of the 13th.

Still tied. Bottom of the 12th. WSU has O’Brien, Caster, Jones up. ORU closer T.J Kelly is out, which is good news for the Shockers. He pitched three perfect innings. Drew Bowen is in.

Going to the bottom of the 11th. Remington Johnson is saving WSU with his slider. He struck out Tyler Garewal to end the 11th, meaning Juan Martinez will lead off the next inning (if there is one) instead of batting with two on.

WSU 6, ORU 6 - extra innings.

WSU 5, ORU 4 (bottom 8th) - Chance Sossamon strikes out the side to work around a leadoff single.

WSU 5, ORU 4 (top 8th) - Wild inning. ORU ace Mark Serrano, one of the nation’s strikeout leaders, struck out four in the inning. Two reached on wild pitches. Baez drove in a run with a bloop double. McKeever drove in another with a double down the left-field line. McKeever didn’t think ORU called timeout as the ball bounced around the infield and he kept running and scored. After a heated discussion, the umpires put McKeever back at second.

ORU 4, WSU 3 (bottom 5th) - ORU’s Juan Martinez hits a three-run homer off Justin Kemp. Martinez hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning of the first meeting, tying that game 3-all and allowing the Golden Eagles to send it to extra innings and win 5-3. Kemp had been pitching well. He gave up singles to the No. 8 and No. 9 hitters, giving Martinez a chance to hurt him. Kemp’s problems really started when he fell behind Danny Duffy, the .207-hitting nine-hole hitter, 2-0. Duffy singled on the next pitch.

WSU 3, ORU 1 (top 5th) - ORU helps the Shockers with two errors. Ryan Engrav singles and Taylor Brown drives in a run with a sacrifice fly.

WSU 1, ORU 1 (bottom 3rd) - Mental error gives ORU a run. Will Baez neglects to cover second on hit to center field. Tyler Grimes threw to him as he was scurrying back to second and the ball rolled into right field, allowing a runner to score from third.

WSU 1, ORU 0 top 2nd - Tyler Grimes gets hit, steals second and goes to third on a throwing error. He scores on Cody Lassley’s double. Then the strikeouts start. Three straight, to put WSU on pace to beat the 21 in 12 innings in the first meeting. WSU struck out 17 times in nine innings.

No rain. Tarp is off. Shooting for a 7:10 p.m. start.

ORU, as expected, is throwing its weekend guys. Jerry Sullivan will start.

You know things aren’t going your way when Tim Kelley shuts out the MVC’s best offensive team on four hits - and doesn’t win MVC pitcher of the week. Evansville’s Keegan Dennis no-hit Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
