The Wichita school district’s computerized student information system was down Tuesday morning, complicating last-minute enrollment at some schools, officials said. The system came back online at about 11:30 a.m.
“There have been a couple of instances of students who have not completed the enrollment process and who are showing up for the first time being asked to return tomorrow for enrollment,” said district spokeswoman Wendy Johnson earlier Tuesday.
Tuesday was the first day for more than 51,000 Wichita students.
Anyone who attempted to log on to the district’s Synergy system or its parent portal, ParentVUE, on Tuesday morning was getting error messages. The system manages enrollment, students’ schedules, grades and other information.
Although most students and their families enroll online or at school well before school starts, Wichita schools regularly have new students arrive on the first day without having completed the enrollment process. Johnson said she had no estimates for how many students may have try to enroll this week.
