Man living at McConnell charged with sex abuse, child porn

A Wichita man who lived at McConnell Air Force Base in base housing was charged Friday in federal court with sexually abusing two teenagers, acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said in a news release.

Random Shane Smith, 36, has been charged in a criminal complaint in U.S. District Court with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of producing child pornography. According to records, Beall said, Smith forced the girls to engage in sex acts with him when they were between 12 and 17 years old, with the most recent assaults occurring at the Air Force base. He photographed some of the assaults on a cellphone, Beall said.

Smith faces up to life in prison if convicted. The FBI and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations investigated the allegations.
