Pittsburg man sentenced to eight years for child porn

A Pittsburg man who told investigators he’s been collecting and looking at child pornography since 2011 was sentenced Thursday to eight years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

John Tyler Gariglietti, 32, admitted to storing the illegal images on a computer in his Pittsburg home and making them available to other users on a file sharing network he was accessing, Grissom said. He pleaded guilty to one county of distributing child pornography in September, according to notations in his court file.

A Wichita Police Department officer working an undercover investigation into child porn on a file-sharing network called BitTorrent came across Gariglietti’s IP address in March, according to the criminal complaint filed in the case. The user tied to the IP address was sharing explicit images, including two of a 9- or 10-year-old girl, the document says.

Authorities served a warrant at Gariglietti’s home, 2001 N. Michigan St. in Pittsburg, and recovered his laptop in May, the complaint says.
