A Wichita woman who held a civilian position at McConnell Air Force Base will serve three years of probation for embezzling more than $54,000 in taxpayer money from a federal fund, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.
Deidra N. Sanders, 44, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court on one count of theft of government money; she pleaded guilty to the charge, Grissom said in a news release. Sanders, in her plea, admitted to stealing $54,348 between March 2013 and April 2014 from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Fund while she worked as a deputy dispersing officer for the U.S. Air Force at the military base. She had access to the fund in the course of her job, Grissom said.
Sanders also was ordered to pay roughly $53,000 in restitution, according to the release.
