Wichita man pleads guilty in Gessler’s Pharmacy robbery

A Wichita man pleaded guilty Thursday to robbing an East Douglas pharmacy, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

Ryan B. Schmidt, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of commercial robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm in the robbery, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Schmidt admitted that he went into Gessler’s Pharmacy, in the 4800 block of East Douglas, on Sept. 4, drew a gun and told an employee to give him prescription drugs, the office said. He fled with 10 bottles of drugs.

Schmidt was in a high-speed chase with police that ended after he hit a utility pole and another car, the office said.

He will be sentenced on March 9.
