Wichita police are asking for tips after a man bleeding from his chest walked in to a Wichita hospital early Saturday morning and said he had been robbed and shot.

Police were called to St. Francis just before 2:50 a.m. Saturday after a 35-year-old man arrived with a gunshot wound to his torso, according to a statement provided by a Wichita Police Department spokesman.

He told police he had been shot while he was walking near South Seneca and West McCormick.

“An unknown man approached him, demanded his belongings, and shot him,” the statement said.

The 35-year-old was treated for his injuries, and is expected to recover.

Officers went to South Seneca and West McCormick, but did not find a crime scene or a suspected shooter, the spokesman said.

The investigation is ongoing, WPD said, and tipsters are encouraged to contact detectives at 316-268-4407. Tips can also be left anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
