Wichita mother, children charged in courtroom brawl during sentencing of family member’s killer
A 48-year-old Wichita mother, and at least a couple of her children, has been charged in the courtroom brawl that broke out in April during the sentencing of her 14-year-old son’s killer, according to court and public records.
When the brawl started, Jeanette L. Dees was giving her statement about why she thought 19-year-old Te’Bryis Robinson should get the maximum prison time for killing her son, TrenJ’vious Hutton, during a 2022 shooting inside a crowded Towne East Square. She was charged Tuesday with one count of disorderly conduct. That state law talks about using “fighting words” or engaging in “noisy conduct likely to arouse alarm, anger or resentment in others.”
Also charged Tuesday with one count of disorderly conduct — but under a statute about brawling or fighting — were 33-year-old Derrick E. Parker Jr., 24-year-old Trentasia Hutton, 21-year-old Trentez Hutton, 18-year-old Trentavies Hutton, and a 16-year-old male. All are from Wichita.
Trentasia Hutton previously spoke with The Eagle about how her younger brother liked to dance, rap and play basketball. Online records show Trentez as also being a son of Dees and brother to the victim.
Others charged also appear to be related to the victim.
The charges are all misdemeanors.
Robinson was sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading no contest last year to second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery. Robinson was a juvenile when the shooting occurred, but prosecutors tried him as an adult.
“I beg you, give him the max [prison time],” Dees said just before the fight while looking at Robinson across the courtroom. “He has ruined my life, he’s ruined my kid’s life... You should just have walked away, you didn’t have to kill my (expletive) son.”
The others in the courtroom who were charged were sitting with the victim’s family and went to the “defendant’s side of the gallery,” according to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, which investigated the fight.
Someone muttered something across the courtroom and the fight broke out.
