Man arrested after woman reports he violated protection order, beat her and her daughter

A 27-year-old man was stunned and arrested Tuesday evening near 21st and Hillside after he ran from and tried to fight Wichita police officers, police said Wednesday.

Officers were flagged down in the 1800 block of North Hillside around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday by a 42-year-old woman, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. She reported that the man had violated a protection from abuse order, pulled a knife and beat her and her 10-year-old daughter in the area of 21st and Grove. The mother and daughter suffered minor injuries.

Shortly after the woman notified police, officers spotted a man matching the description running across Hillside, Espinoza said. He ran from police, tried to combat officers and was stunned with a Taser “multiple times.” Wichita State University police assisted in the arrest, Espinoza said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, domestic violence, battery and violation of a protection order, arrest records show.

Espinoza said the man and woman had a former relationship, but they were not married.
