A Wichita couple threatened a clerk with a knife, took cigarettes and an energy drink from the store then stood outside the store until Wichita police arrived to arrest them.
The incident happened at 11:35 p.m. Saturday at the Presto convenience store at 2356 S. Seneca, said Sgt. Roger Runft, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
The 34-year-old man and 29-year old woman walked into the store at Pawnee during a pouring rainstorm, Runft said.
The woman put the cigarettes and drink on the counter to purchase, Runft said. But when the woman didn’t have enough money to pay for the items, the man became upset and told the clerk to give the woman the items.

When the clerk refused, the man asked the woman to get a knife out of her purse. She did and gave it to the man, who then threatened the clerk with the knife, demanding the items again.
The clerk complied. The two then grabbed the items and stepped outside the store until police arrived.
The couple were taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated robbery of a convenience store.
No other injuries or threats came from the couple, Runft said.
