The driver of a stolen pickup led Wichita police on a 5-mile chase before he was arrested in Derby on Wednesday night, officials said.

An officer patrolling near 31st South and Hillside at around 10:50 p.m. tried to stop a 1992 black Dodge Dakota with a dealer plate that had been reported stolen, Officer Charley Davidson said.

The driver of the pickup accelerated and refused to stop, Davidson said.

Police chased the pickup into the 200 block of Catalpa in Derby, where the driver pulled behind a house, Davidson said. The driver and a passenger ran.

The 28-year-old man driving the pickup was arrested; the 25-year-old female passenger was interviewed but not arrested, Davidson said.

Jail records show Cody Allan Peterson was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude, aggravated weapons violation, possession of opiates, criminal deprivation of property and multiple traffic violations in connection to the case.
