A 51-year-old cyclist who was injured in a hit-and-run two weeks ago died over the weekend at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to authorities.

Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder told The Hutchinson News that the man accused of hitting Jose L. Lopez and driving off will be charged with first-degree murder. Taylor Lukone, 19 was originally booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder. He is held on a $100,000 bond, according to jail records.

Someone called 911 at around 1 a.m. Sept. 21 after finding Lopez unconscious on the side of the road in the 1200 block of East 4th, the Hutchinson Police Department said.

Police said Lukone intentionally hit the bicyclist because he didn’t like how he treated people, the newspaper reported.

Shortly after Lopez was hit, two people stopped to help him, but left before police arrived. Police are asking to speak with those people.
