Police identify man who was fatally stabbed

The 35-year-old man who was fatally stabbed Sunday was identified by police as Rocky Simmons.

Wichita police Lt. Jason Stephens said earlier this week that Simmons and Jonathan C. Miller, 26, got into a fight at around 10 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Jump, near Hydraulic and Pawnee. Miller is accused of pulling out a knife and stabbing Simmons multiple times. He later died at the hospital, Stephens said.

Neighbors in the area said two groups of people were hanging out Sunday night when the men began to argue.

Stephens said the two men didn’t know each other. What the argument is about is under investigation, police said.

Miller was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police say this is the 23rd homicide of the year.

A 35-year-old man was killed after being stabbed on Sunday, Aug. 27 in the 1600 block of East Jump.
