Garden City high schooler in jail after trying to take officer’s gun, police say

Police arrested a Garden City high schooler who allegedly became enraged and grabbed an officer’s gun on Wednesday.

Garden City police, in a news release posted on Facebook, said the 16-year-old boy was trying to disarm the officer. School resource officers were called to the Garden City High School’s office at 12:47 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found the teen, agitated and upset, police said.

The teen started yelling and threatened the officer, police said. When the officer tried to arrest him, the two fought and the teen tried to take the officer’s gun away, police said.

Officers subdued the teen and took him into custody. He was booked into the juvenile detention center and could face charges of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, interfering with a law enforcement officer, criminal threat, battery of a law enforcement officer and assault of a law enforcement officer, police said.
