A man tried to rob a west Wichita clothing store, but left without any money after firing a shot into the ceiling, according to Wichita police.

Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said Tuesday that officers responded to a robbery call at the Burlington Coat Factory store at 613 S. Dugan at about 9:20 p.m. Monday night. That’s near Kellogg and Ridge.

An employee at the store reported that a man armed with a handgun demanded money from a cashier, who struggled to retrieve cash from a register. The suspect, according to the employee, then fired one round into the store’s ceiling before leaving with no money.

The suspect reportedly left the scene heading east on Taft while driving a black, four-door Toyota with tinted windows and after-market tail light covers, Woodrow said. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as being 5-foot-10 with a thin build. He was wearing dark pants, a brown coat, white shoes and white gloves with a black face mask, Woodrow said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Wichita Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
