Kansas attorney general to handle any prosecution in death of Pratt infant

The Kansas Attorney General’s Office said Friday that it will handle any criminal prosecution that may arise from an investigation into the death of a Pratt infant on Jan. 11.

The Pratt Police Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation of the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death, according to a news release from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

As of Friday, no criminal charges had been filed in connection with the case. Prosecution, if any, will be handled by the office at the request of the Pratt County attorney, Schmidt’s office said.

Pratt’s police chief could not be reached immediately Friday afternoon for details surrounding the infant’s death. A KBI spokeswoman deferred questions to the attorney general’s office.

Schmidt’s spokesman, Clint Blaes, said all of the information he could provide was contained in the news release.
