An armed man wearing a camouflage bandanna over his face robbed a south Wichita auto parts store Tuesday night, and police say the same person may be responsible for a string of recent robberies.
The man walked into the O’Reilly Auto Parts store at 4818 E. Lincoln shortly after 8 p.m. and ordered those inside to the floor at gunpoint, Lt. Doug Nolte said. He ordered an employee to empty the store’s registers of cash and put it into a plastic bag. He then told a second employee to open the store safe in the back and give him the money from it.
He then walked out the front door. No one was hurt during the robbery.
The suspect is a black male who is 5-feet-6 or 5-feet-7 and weighs about 180 pounds, victims told police. He wore a black hoodie and the camouflage bandanna covering his face. He had dark gloves on and brandished a black revolver.
Anyone who was in the area of Lincoln and Oliver at about 8 p.m. and saw anything suspicious is encouraged to call 911, Nolte said. They can also contact Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111, online at www.wichitacrimestoppers.com, or by text message to CRIMES – 274637 – and beginning the message with TIP217.
The robbery is the third in the past few weeks that involved a robber wearing a camouflage bandanna to hide his face, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. In fact, he said, investigators are looking at the possibility that the same person may be responsible for as many as five robberies since the first of the year.
