Police: Woman recovering after stabbing in Goddard

A Goddard woman allegedly stabbed by her estranged husband during a domestic dispute is expected to recover, Goddard Police Chief Sam Houston said Saturday.

“She came through surgery OK and is currently in the ICU,” Houston said of the 28-year-old woman, who was rushed to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in critical condition shortly after 5 p.m. Friday. She had multiple knifewounds to her neck, throat, chest and leg.

“She is stable,” he said.

The woman’s husband, a 28-year-old Haysville man, was booked into Sedgwick County jail just after midnight Saturday on suspicion of attempted first degree murder, booking records show. He is held in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Houston said the man turned himself into Haysville police about two hours after the stabbing, which occurred at the woman’s home in the 600 block of North Goddard Road, south of U.S. 54 in Goddard.

The woman’s five children, ranging in age from 3 to 13, were in the house when the stabbing occurred. One of them called 911, Houston said. They were not hurt, he said.
