Man shot in El Dorado home dies, two Wichitans arrested

A 24-year-old man shot Monday morning at his El Dorado home has died, a police official said Wednesday.

Two Wichitans arrested in connection with 24-year-old Trevor Wakefield’s shooting may face amended charges now that the case involves a fatality, El Dorado police Chief Tom Boren said Wednesday.

Wakefield died late Wednesday morning at Wesley Medical Center, Boren said, following his transfer from Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Authorities found the 24-year-old with gunshot wounds around 3 a.m. Monday after three people, including those charged, fled the house at 433 N. Allegheny.

Montee Ray Iverson, 34, and Mandy Renee Crandall, 29, made first appearances in Butler County court Wednesday afternoon, Boren said. Iverson is charged with attempted second-degree murder in Wakefield’s shooting, criminal possession of a firearm and aggravated assault, Boren said. Crandall is charged with assisting the escape of a fugitive, he said.

Both are being held in Butler County jail. As of Wednesday, Iverson’s bail was set at $250,000 and Crandall’s was $100,000, Boren said.

A third person, also from Wichita, was questioned and released, he said.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Iverson has served prison terms dating back to 1998 for charges including criminal threat, aggravated escape from custody, aggravated assault, criminal possession of a firearm and theft.

He was sent back to prison five times on parole and probation violations, the latest occurring on July 5, according to KDOC. Iverson was released from custody Oct. 16 upon expiration of his sentence.

Records show Crandall spent time in state custody following a 2009 drug conviction. She was sent to prison in November 2011 on a probation violation, according to the KDOC, and released Sept. 14 after her sentence expired.

Iverson was arrested west of Winfield about 3 p.m. Monday following a manhunt that led authorities from El Dorado to Cowley County, according to the El Dorado police department. Law enforcement found Crandall late that morning near Winfield Lake, also in Cowley County.

Authorities tracked down the third person Monday near Atlanta. That person was questioned and released without charges, Boren said.

The case has been turned over to the Butler County attorney, Boren said.
