A Wichita school district student reported that a fellow student forced her to have sex, police said Friday.
The student is 13 or younger, according to a police report.
Police Lt. Jeff Weible, commander of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit, said he couldn’t say what school is involved because it might identify the student.
The school immediately called 911 after receiving information that a crime might have occurred, he said.
A police report listed the case under the category of “rape child 13 & under.” The incident was reported Thursday by a 42-year-old woman, the report said.
The female student was taken to the Exploited and Missing Child Unit to be interviewed; the suspect also was taken to the unit but was not interviewed because a parent couldn’t be found, a police report said. Whether a juvenile suspect can be interviewed without a parent is a case-by-case decision where the suspect’s age is a factor, Weible said.
He said he could provide only limited information about the case because of the ongoing investigation.
School district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said, “It is still early in the investigation, and we are cooperating with police as they gather information about the allegations.”
The police report lists a “start date” of Aug. 17, 2011, which was around the beginning of the current school year, and an “end date” of Thursday, indicating the allegations deal with something occurring within those nine months.
