A child sex offender who escaped from Lansing Correctional Facility last month was captured this afternoon in Kansas City, Kan., prison officials said today.
Gary Leslie Furthmyer, 59, who escaped from his minimum-security assignment at a steam plant at the prison on April 18, was taken to the Wyandotte County Jail, where he will be held until he is transferred back to the prison.
At the time of his escape, Furthmyer was serving a six- to 25-year sentence out of Sedgwick County for indecent liberties with a child and aggravated failure to appear.
