Jury selection will continue Tuesday in two separate murder trials that began Monday in Sedgwick County District Court.
Jury selection is expected to finish and testimony begin in the trial of Michael Reed before Judge Jeff Syrios.
Reed, 29, is charged in the May 2009 shooting death of Vincent Barnes, 33.
Prosecutors say Reed and his younger brother, Robert, were celebrating on the eve of Robert's wedding. They ended up at Barnes' apartment in the 500 block of North Florence, near Central and West Street, when a fight began.
Robert J. Reed, 23, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in January and is serving a 19 1/2-year prison sentence.
A third man, Jeremy Trout, also pleaded guilty to second degree murder last September and is awaiting sentencing later this month.
Judge Eric Commer expects jury selection to last most of Tuesday in the murder trial of Derrick E. Richard.
Richard, 42, is accused of killing his neighbor, Grady Lane in July 2010, in the 500 block of North Wabash, near Central and Washington.
Prosecutors say the two men had an ongoing dispute. Richard is accused of firing shots from Lane's back yard into the upper level of the house.
The next morning, Lane's wife found him dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
Lane was a carpenter by trade and a volunteer at Washington Elementary School.
