Shots fired at southeast Wichita apartment complex, but no one hurt

WICHITA — Police are looking for two men who were seen running from a southeast Wichita apartment complex after several shots were fired into an apartment early this morning.

The shots were fired in an apartment building in the 9100 block of East Harry shortly before 2 a.m., a witness told police, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

A man went to an apartment in Building 1100 of the Claremont Apartments, knocked on the door and began yelling for a person to come to the door, a woman told police. When there was no response, the man pulled out a gun and fired three or four shots through the door, Nolte said.

No one was in the targeted apartment. Bullets penetrated the walls of another apartment, which was also empty.

One bullet struck a metal balcony railing of a third apartment, where three people were asleep.

The shooter and another man ran north on Bedell Street, which is west of the complex. The man who fired the shots is white and in his 20s, witnesses told police. He is about 5-feet-7 and 150 pounds.
