Bond was set Wednesday at $500,000 for each of two men charged in the weekend beating death of John Tolliver, who was found dead in his home in the 1400 block of North Kansas early Sunday morning.
Nelson R. Glover and Samuel J. Sims were each charged with second-degree murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and criminal trespassing. They were ordered to return to court Aug. 3 for a preliminary hearing.
Wichita police said the dispute that led to Tolliver's death began with a fight between Tolliver and an ex-girlfriend over possession of a dog.
Police found Tolliver, 47, at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday. He had trauma to his head and other injuries, police said.
Police said Tolliver's ex-girlfriend and two men went to Tolliver's residence about 9 p.m. Saturday. They burglarized the home and took the dog.
Tolliver was not there, but he returned home from work after a neighbor told him someone had broken into his house.
The woman exchanged text messages with Tolliver after the first burglary. Police think the messages are why the two men returned to the house about midnight.
When they returned, they committed another burglary, confronted Tolliver and left, police said.
