Homicide victim found buried in Oaklawn

WICHITA — Law enforcement officers tonight have converged on a home in Oaklawn where the body of a homicide victim has been found buried behind a shed, authorities said.

Wichita police Lt. Ken Landwehr said detectives found the body while following up on a tip they received on Monday.

The body is buried in a shallow grave in the back yard of a home in the 3300 block of East Oaklawn Drive, near K-15 and 47th Street South, he said. He said the occupant of the home did not know the body was there.

Landwehr identified the victim only as an adult male who was killed in late December. He said there were two suspects in the case, one of whom is in custody on unrelated charges. The second suspect remains at large, he said.

Wichita police and the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office are excavating the body, Landwehr said. He said McConnell Air Force Base is assisting by providing heaters and tents that are sheltering the workers from the extreme cold.
