Off-duty detective attacked at restaurant

WICHITA — An off-duty Sedgwick County sheriff's detective was assaulted today at a Wichita restaurant by a man who also attacked the restaurant's owner, a sheriff's official said.

Capt. Annette Haga said the incident occurred at 2:15 p.m. at Bomber Burger, 4860 S. Clifton, when the detective was struck without provocation with a glass mug. The owner intervened, Haga said, and was cut by the suspect during the scuffle.

The 50-year-old suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated battery, Haga said.

The detective and owner were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
