Police ID man killed in family argument

The man who was stabbed to death late Monday night during a dispute with his stepfather in southeast Wichita has been identified by police as Donald Carter.

Carter, 27, went to his mother and stepfather's home at 1500 block of South Hydraulic and began arguing with his 54-year-old stepfather, police said. The argument escalated until the stepfather grabbed a knife and stabbed Carter several times just after 11:30 p.m. Monday, witnesses told police.

Carter's mother attempted to intervene, police said, but she was also stabbed. Carter was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after midnight.

His mother's stab wound was not serious. The stepfather surrendered to officers at the house without incident, police said.

He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

It was the 12th homicide in the city so far this year.
